Lebanon Records 73 COVID-19 Deaths, 3,757 Cases

Lebanon registered 73 new coronavirus deaths and 3,757 more cases in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said Thursday.

The cases were detected among 20,236 tests, with 14 cases found among travelers arriving at Rafik Hariri International Airport. The positivity rate throughout the last two weeks stood at 17.8 percent.

The total number of cases since the virus was first detected in the country on February, 2020, rose to 430,734 according to figures released by the Health Ministry. The total number of fatalities now stands at 5,608.

The statistics provided by the Health Ministry also show that 2,383 patients are currently hospitalized for COVID-19 and related complications, with 959 in the ICU and 307 requiring ventilators.

The Health Ministry also reported that 2,636 first-stage jabs and 4,231 second-round vaccinations had been administered over the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of inoculations since the national inoculation campaign began to 102,261 first-stage and 32,103 second-stage vaccinations so far.

Lebanon launched its nationwide inoculation campaign on Feb.14, 2021. So far, the country has only administered jabs developed by Pfizer-BionTech, the US-based pharmaceutical group, to front line health care workers and people over the age of 75.
