Lebanon registered 53 more coronavirus-related deaths and 3,369 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Health Ministry said Thursday.

The cases were detected among 20,824 tests, with 23 cases found among travelers arriving at Beirut International Airport. The positivity rate throughout the last two weeks stood at 17.5 percent.

The total number of cases since coronavirus was first detected in Lebanon on Feb. 21, 2020, now stands at 386,851, according to the Health Ministry. The total number of fatalities has risen to 4,919.

The data provided by the Health Ministry also shows that 2,157 patients are currently hospitalized for COVID-19 and related complications, with 885 in the ICU and 286 on ventilators.

Meanwhile, Lebanon National Operations Room reported that 5,484 people were inoculated over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of people vaccinated to 66,719 since the start of the campaign on Feb. 14.

Also, head of the parliamentary Health Committee MP Assem Araji said that he has never witnessed Lebanon in its current state, even during the '80s when the country was in the midst of a bloody Civil War.

"Medicines are missing, experienced doctors are leaving the country, I am sad about the situation that I hadn't even witnessed during my time working at a university hospital during the Civil War at the end of the 1980s," he said in a tweet.
