Biden: Incomers to US Will Be Required Testing, Quarantine
By Staff, Agencies
In addition to requiring a test before they fly, travelers to the US will need to quarantine upon arrival, US President Joe Biden said Thursday as he announced a raft of measures aimed at containing the spread of Covid-19, according to AFP.
Biden intends to sign 10 executive orders later in the day relating to the coronavirus crisis, including a redirection of disaster funds to aid reopen schools across the nation, Reuters reported.
US officials stressed that one order will pertain to mandatory masks in airports and other forms of public transportation such as trains and intercity buses.
"In addition to wearing masks, everyone flying to the United States from another country will need to test before they get on that plane, before they depart, and quarantine when they arrive in America," said Biden as quoted by AFP.
The testing requirement was announced by the previous administration of Donald Trump, but quarantine was only a recommendation.
In his inauguration speech, the newly-elected president said that “We’re entering what may be the toughest and deadliest period of the virus and must set aside politics and finally face this pandemic as one nation.”
According to Reuters, Biden further plans to sign orders that will instate COVID-19 testing board to ramp up testing and direct resources for minority communities hit hard by the pandemic, including Native American tribes.
