Leader of the Islamic Revolution His Eminence Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei, addressed the nation on the occasion of Eid al-Adha on July 31, 2020.
Imam Khamenei congratulated “all Muslims as well as all the followers of Abrahamic religions on the occasion of Eid al-Adha".
In his address, Imam Khamenei tackled the issue of US sanction imposed on Iran saying they are “a major crime targeting the Iranian people”.
His Eminence further added, “What the US wants out of the sanctions is to halt Iranian support for the resistance movements”.
However, the Leader explained that “The dreams of the Americans will not come true, nor will they reach their goals against Iran,” as a Persian proverb says, “A camel dreams of cottonseed.”
Imam Khamenei warned that “The enmity towards the Iranian nation is enormous and thus the people should rely on their strength”.
In his address, the Leader also said the enemies of the Islamic Republic seek to achieve short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals by imposing sanctions against the Iranian nation.
“The goal of the short-term US sanctions is to place the Iranian people in the face of their government,” Imam Khamenei said.
His Eminence further added, “The long-term US sanctions aim to bring down the Iranian economy, and it is only in their minds”.
However, Imam Khamenei said that these sanctions “are things are going in the interest of our people”.
The Leader said surrendering to the enemy is not the way to lift the sanctions. “The only cure for sanctions is rather relying on domestic capabilities.”
“We made us of the sanctions and depended on our resources to build a Kawthar training plane when they refused to let us buy it,” Imam Khamenei said.
His Eminence went on to say, “We benefited from the sanctions in achieving scientific prosperity, and built oil refineries and set up gas projects,” adding, “One of our most important achievements is separating the economy from oil”.
Elsewhere in his speech, Imam Khamenei explained that “for Washington, what negotiation means is Iran making concessions,” saying that “Standing up to the United States’ arrogance requires moving forward, not retreating and conceding”.
The Leader also warned “of the attempts to distort the facts and enemies’ goal to target the morale of the Iranians”.
