Macron Publicly Acknowledges Hariri Was Detained in Saudi Arabia
French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed that his country's voice was heard, revealing new details about the sudden resignation of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri on November 4.
"This is French diplomacy, and this is our approach, which happened when I went to Riyadh to persuade the Saudi Crown Prince to resolve the Hariri crisis," McCron said in a television interview with the French BFM TV.
Macron pointed out that Hariri had been detained in Saudi Arabia for several weeks.
The French President reiterated the importance of his country's foreign policy, referring to its role in Lebanon, especially the recent crisis of Prime Minister Saad Hariri with Riyadh.
Speculation had swirled about the circumstances of Hariri's resignation since his surprise announcement on November 4 in a statement read on Saudi Arabia's Al-Arabiya television channel.
Hariri, who has long been close to Saudi authorities, insisted in an interview with his party's television channel Future TV on November 12 that he had freedom of movement and he will "return to Lebanon very soon".
