Sixteen people were saved at the site of military drills in Kazakhstan’s southern region of Jambyl that was hit by an avalanche, the Kazakh Interior Ministry told Sputnik on Friday.

Imankulov said the death toll still stands at seven people, whose bodies have been uncovered earlier in the day.

"The number of survivors increased from 10 to 16 people," Ruslan Imankulov, the ministry’s emergency situations committee spokesman, said.
